Kent Island Families Gather for SOS News Conference

Last week at Old Love Point Park, we stated that the county's plan to build a $3 million homeless shelter by Kent Island's four schools, park and the Cross-Island Trail - where thousands of kids come and go every day - is unacceptable.
Although we believe the state should deny funding, it is the responsibility of our locally-elected QAC commissioners to stop and relocate this county project.
The safety of our children is too important to risk.
Commission president Jim Moran, who according to WBOC-TV "doesn't believe the shelter will being any safety problem" said it's "out of our hands" and up to the state!
Don't be fooled. While the county has requested $3 million from the state, our county commissioners are responsible for the entire project! Under County Administrator Gregg Todd, county employees Michael Clark, Candice Darling and Mickey Lomax have been planning this project for several years - on behalf of the Queen Anne's County commission.
SOS believes a homeless shelter should be located closer to health, social and career services, and has suggested many options including relocation, multiple locations, and an approach which is now considered a national best practice: permanent housing coupled with individualized case management.
TAKE ACTION NOW - tell the commissioners to do their duty and move this project immediately: qaccommissionersandadministrator@qac.org and 410-758-4098
